The Storage Engineer is to provide expert advice and counsel to users, management and IT project teams for systems of the most complex nature (typically crossing function/location lines). Evaluates new technologies and develops departmental standard practices.
Identifies or reacts to problems related to the technology infrastructure or in support of the software development process.
Demonstrates a broad knowledge level across multiple areas of information technology and will be involved as a key team member on strategic or enterprise-wide technology issues.

RESPONSIBLITIES:
The Storage Engineer manages the implementation of Enterprise storage across multiple platforms. Engineers in this role serve as a liaison between Operations, Infrastructure and Application Development regarding the implementation and maintenance of Storage. Evolves existing problems management processes to effect support of storage for both development and production environments. Monitors log files, performance issues and the production environment for mission critical systems.
Must be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences and needs to have a good understanding and experience of server and client side architectures.
Should have an understanding of current industry trends and their advantages with ability to right fit into an existing environment. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Understands requested changes to storage, its configuration and implications to all user areas. Qualified candidates will possess the following qualifications/skill sets:
Primary Objective and Role- Responsible for the providing comprehensive support for implementation and 3rd level support of all Storage based applications for all TD Ameritrade systems.
• Work with host groups to design storage and backup infrastructures that satisfy business requirements.
• Installation of SANs, SAN-based arrays, multi-ported arrays, mid-size to large storage arrays.
• Management of SANs, SAN-based arrays, multi-ported arrays, mid-size to large storage arrays (arrays with multiple host connections).
o Management includes configuration, usage reporting, and allocation to host.
o Monitoring of file systems and storage arrays will continue to be performed by storage vendors and the Command Center.
• Reporting of and assistance in procurement of direct attached arrays and drives containing data.
o The SMG will report on storage growth for file systems and disks containing data. Monitoring of OS for space issues will continue to be performed by the command center.
o If agents are unavailable host team will provide level of access or information needed.
• Plan implementation of storage devices
o Work with host groups to implement storage and backup systems.
• Physical volume management of SAN-based arrays, multi-ported arrays, and mid-size to large storage arrays.
o Acquire, install, and allocate physical storage and volumes to servers.
• First & second level support of storage infrastructure
o Troubleshoot, maintain, and support of SANs, SAN-based arrays, multi-ported arrays, mid-size to large storage arrays, and backup environments.
o Work with host teams to resolve issues. Primary point of escalation to vendor support.
• Storage vendor support contact
o Escalate storage hardware and software related issues that cannot be resolved in-house.
• Array based data migrations
o Copy, move, and verify integrity of data migrations that are completed via storage-based data movement utilities.
o Storage-based data copies will be performed when the means are available and cost effective.
• Data backup and restore operations
o Work with data center team to schedule backups and perform file level restores.
• Provide host teams with storage agents and tools to view storage allocated to their respective host
• Provide proper software and documentation for installing and configuring storage agent software


REQUIRED SKILLS

• Working knowledge of multiple storage technologies – Hardware (EMC, Hitachi, and IBM), Configuration Tools (EMC Control Center, Hitachi Hi-Command etc.), Volume Management Tools (Veritas Volume Manager, EMC PowerPath), Tape Archival (Veritas Netbackup) and geographic data replication technologies.
• Experience with SAN Switching Fabrics / protocols: Cisco, Fiber Channel, Fiber Channel over Internet Protocol (FCIP), iSCSI, FICON.
• Experience working in mid to large scale storage environments of 100TB+.
• Out-of-the-box thinker driven to lower costs using conventional/non-conventional solutions.
• Vendor certifications in storage related solutions desired.
• Financial Services industry experience desired.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies and processes desired.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills. Must be able to prepare, present, and maintain technical documentation.
• Excellent computer skills are necessary in Microsoft Word, Excel, Presentation, Project, and Visio.

# YEARS EXP
• 5+ years storage management, or related, experience overall (2+ years storage analysis and design coupled with 3+ years of storage administration or engineering).
